Garrod’s goal is to provide high-touch client service to affluent individuals who not only want to grow and protect their wealth, but also want to leave a legacy for future generations. As an insurance specialist, he brings an in depth knowledge of how to use insurance products to provide liquidity for estate taxes, reimburse a company for the loss of a key person, create income for someone who has been disabled, accumulate cash for retirement, and maximize the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) inside of an insurance contract through the use of leverage.

Garrod has been part of the First Western team since 2009 where he started in the Professional Development Program. In this role, he gained experience in underwriting, lending, investment management, wealth planning, and insurance. He has been part of our insurance advisory group since 2011.

Insurance Advisory Services

Garrod takes his role as an insurance advisor seriously. While many people only think of life insurance when considering risk management solutions, Garrod understands that insurance has a number of creative uses. When designed in conjunction with a client’s entire wealth plan, insurance can be an effective tool in tax diversification, charitable gifting, deferred compensation, and more. To support his clients’ unique goals, Garrod enjoys taking the time to get to know them and learning about what they hope to accomplish with their wealth. Then, in partnership with our entire team of insurance experts as well as our wealth planners, Garrod uses his insurance expertise to build creative solutions to meet his clients’ needs.

In addition to designing these solutions, Garrod also enjoys helping his clients sort through the complexities of the financial industry. He recognizes that it can feel overwhelming to go through the insurance application process, and Garrod takes pride in the disciplined approach that his team of insurance advisors brings to our clients. After completing a needs assessment and analyzing a client’s goals, Garrod creates a conceptual policy for his client. Then, he conducts a product survey to identify the best insurance services for their needs. Next, Garrod starts the underwriting process and submits his findings to multiple companies so that his clients receive offers from a number of firms. This means that our clients typically have an opportunity to select from a number of competitive options. Even after a policy is selected, our insurance experts continue to stay involved through ongoing policy support to ensure that your policy is delivering all of the benefits that we had outlined.

Getting to Know Garrod

What do you like most about your job?
What I like most about my job as an insurance specialist is creating a tailored approach to our clients financial planning and finding solutions they might not have thought of.  I also like learning about how our clients have become successful and the path that they took to get to where they are. 

What person, living or deceased, would you most like to meet?
I’d personally like to meet Stephen Hawking. 

What trait do you most value in your friends?
The trait that I value most in my friends is genuineness.  Simply mean what you say, say what you mean, and follow through on commitments.  Friendship should also be unconditional.  Everyone goes through hard times and struggles, but true friends are the ones that stick around through all of that.
