Denver, Colo.– October 30, 2017 – After a national search First Western Trust has selected John Sawyer as chief investment officer. John will succeed Debbie Silversmith, who will remain actively involved with First Western Trust’s Investment Management team in a part-time role. Mr. Sawyer is responsible for developing the company’s overall investment strategy. He will also lead the Investment Policy Committee, which designs the asset allocation guidelines for the firm and directs First Western Trust’s partnerships with outside investment managers.

Most recently, Mr. Sawyer was president and COO of St. John’s Investment Management Company, a Jacksonville-based firm providing high-net-worth clients with comprehensive financial planning and goals-based investing. Prior to that, Mr. Sawyer worked at BBVA Compass Bank as the chief investment and fiduciary officer, overseeing the company’s North American investments with more than $10 billion in assets under management.
