“For most people, officers, firefighters, and first responders are your 9-1-1 call. For the families of these individuals, we’re theirs.” – Sharon Knutson-Felix, Executive Director, 100 Club of Arizona

On June 30, 2013, the families of the Granite Mountain Hotshots – the wildfire specialists of the Prescott Fire Department – were left in the wake of one of the deadliest fires in U.S. history. 19 of the Granite Mountain Hotshots lost their lives in one day, protecting local communities from the Yarnill Hill Fire. When the fire was contained on July 10, 2013, the 100 Club of Arizona set to work to help the families of the fallen firefighters. Through the support of donors across the nation, the 100 Club was able to raise millions of dollars and provide the monetary assistance and support programming these families needed.

The 100 Club of Arizona continues this work today and recently passed their $10 million dollar mark in funding payouts to Arizona officers and firefighters. The organization started in 1965 with a group of local businessmen, who were committed to supporting the families of fallen police officers of Maricopa Country. Since their inception, the 100 Club has expanded their operations greatly.

The 100 Club of Arizona now provides assistance not only for the families of fallen officers in the line of duty, but also to the families of those who passed while employed by a public safety agency. It also provides assistance to first responders who experience a life-altering event, and offers a scholarship program to the children and spouses of officers and firefighters. The most recent expansion was the “Peer 100 Program,” which aims to improve the wellness of public safety officers and their families, addressing stress management and other challenges often faced by those with a career in public safety.

The 100 Club continues to grow its programs to provide greater assistance and resources to the families of Arizona public safety officers and firefighters. If you are interested in learning more about the 100 Club of Arizona and its programs and benefits, please visit www.100club.org.*
